Download the latest version of the Hax Mod GCI from the Download section.
Download and install the Homebrew Channel onto a Wii.

Download GCMM.

Extract the “gcmm_1.4f” folder to an easily accessible location.

Within the gcmm_1.4f folder, open the folder called “apps”. Within it is a folder called “gcmm”. Drag this into the “apps” folder on the SD card you use for Homebrew.

On the root of the SD card, make a folder called “MCBACKUP”.

Place the Hax Mod GCI inside MCBACKUP.

Place the SD card in the Wii. Place a Gamecube memory card in the Wii. Turn the Wii on. Load GCMM.
Hit A at this screen if this has been done through an SD card. If done through a USB, hit B.

All Melee saves must now be deleted from your memory card. If you wish to preserve them, back them up before continuing.
At this screen, hit Z.

Hit A or B according to what slot your memory card is in.


Locate any save files and delete them.

Press B to go back to the main menu. Hit X to restore.


Complete the restoration process. Then, turn off the Wii. At this point, the memory card will function properly with vanilla Melee.

To make the memory card function properly on Nintendont, navigate to the Settings screen. Turn Memcard Emulation off. Turn Native Control on.

Load “Super Smash Bros Melee [GALE01]”.

Navigate to VS. Mode -> Name Entry (from the game menu, not the Character Select Screen).
Your memory card is now set up.
